Table  The Discontinued Schools Report table displays the number of schools in each state where Reading First funding has been terminated, according to the reason for termination. Discontinuation of funding commonly results from the re-organization of schools or districts, which often leads to the following: (1) Split: A school or district splits into two or more schools or districts; (2) Merge: Two or more schools or districts combine to form one school or district; or (3) Close: School buildings are closed. Other reasons for termination may include implementation problems, decisions by district or school staff, or changes in eligibility.

Clicking on the plus sign (+) to the left of the state/territory name expands the table to display district-level discontinuation information. Profile Reports containing more detailed and comprehensive information on each state and district may be obtained by clicking on the underlined entity name.

Map  The Discontinued Schools Report map shows the number of schools in each state where Reading First funding has been terminated, according to the reason for termination. Use the selection tool to the right of the map to change the reason for discontinuation displayed on the map.

Note: The map displays information for the 50 states only. Data are not included for Reading First schools in American Samoa, the Bureau of Indian Education, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands.
